Coastal Concerts’ 20th season to continue with Musica Pacifica Jan. 19

January 5, 2019

Audience members for the first two Coastal Concerts 20th anniversary season shows experienced extraordinary musical performances, and four concerts are yet to come this season.

Pianist Awadagin Pratt applied his blend of raw power and sublime sweetness to works of Brahms, Beethoven, Auerbach and Franck Oct. 20.

The American String Quartet brought with them violist Roberto Díaz and cellist Andrés Díaz for a stellar program of sextets by Strauss, Brahms and Tchaikovsky Nov. 17. The group also performed in back-to-back outreach programs Nov. 16 at Lord Baltimore Elementary School in Ocean View and South Coastal Library in Bethany Beach.

Musica Pacifica will perform at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19.

The group played for Coastal Concerts in 2003 and in 2010, with the audience members nearly dancing in the aisles in response. Violinist and Cape Breton expert fiddler David Greenberg will  join the group Jan. 19.  He entranced the audience when performing with the Red Priest Baroque Band at Coastal Concerts in 2017.

David Russell, a guitarist renowned for his superb musicianship and inspired artistry, will return to the Coastal Concerts stage at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23. He previously performed here in 2011 and 2006. Russell was named a Fellow of The Royal Academy of Music in London in 1997.  Russell will also perform an outreach program.

Pianist Orion Weiss will play at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 16, and for the wild card performance, string trio Time For Three will appear at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 13. A pre-concert talk will begin at 6:30 p.m.

All Coastal Concerts shows except for outreach programs take place at Bethel United Methodist Church fellowship hall at 4th and Market streets in Lewes.

The engagements of the American String Quartet with brothers Roberto and Andrés Díaz and of David Russell have been made possible through the Special Presenters Initiative program of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.
