Coastal-Georgetown AAUW to learn about preserving open space May 20

May 9, 2021

The Coastal Georgetown AAUW will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 20, via Zoom. Presenter Lisa Swanger will provide a virtual journey through the James Farm Ecological Preserve, a 150-acre oasis of wildland situated along the southern shore of the Indian River Bay near Ocean View. Participants will learn about the importance of preserving open spaces like this for the health of Delaware's Inland Bays, and the people and wildlife that depend on them.

Swanger serves as the outreach and education coordinator for the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays, a nonprofit organization committed to preserving, protecting and restoring Delaware’s Inland Bays and their watersheds. She holds a master of science degree in marine resource management from the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University. With her deep-rooted passion for the ocean and particular interest in the human dimensions surrounding coastal and marine conservation, Swanger has gained extensive environmental education and program management experience with nonprofit, private and state organizations.
