Comcast NBCUniversal awards scholarships to Delaware students

July 24, 2018

Comcast NBCUniversal awarded approximately $12,000 in scholarships for the 2018-19 school year to 12 Delaware students as part of its annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program. The program, funded by the Comcast Foundation, awards a one-time, $1,000 scholarship to the best and brightest high school seniors for their community service, academic performance and leadership skills. Since 2001, more than $28 million has been awarded to nearly 27,000 high school seniors across the country as part of the Leaders and Achievers Program.

The 2018 Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship recipients from Sussex County are Olivia Tancredi of Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes, Adriana Lopez of Sussex Central High School in Georgetown, Joud Dabaj of Indian River High School in Dagsboro, Nyra Giles of Laurel Senior High School and Yasmine Signey of Woodbridge High School in Greenwood.

Comcast recognized the students at a special luncheon held at Frazier's Restaurant in Dover June 19. Following lunch, the students and their families traveled to the Delaware General Assembly where a resolution honoring the 2018 Leaders and Achievers was passed in the House of Representatives.

"I am proud to see the work these Delaware students have put into their academics and the dedication to their communities," said Gov. John Carney. "Congratulations to all of the recipients. And thank you Comcast for helping our students continue to further their education and shape their communities."

"All of our Leaders and Achievers Scholarship winners show a strong commitment to their communities and academic achievement," said Mary McLaughlin, senior vice president of Comcast's Beltway Region. "We are honored to recognize their accomplishments and look forward to supporting them as they further their education."
