With about a week left before the submission deadline, Rehoboth Beach Commissioner Edward Chrzanowski has filed for re-election.
Rehoboth’s 2022 annual municipal election is Saturday, Aug. 13. The filing deadline is Monday, June 6.
Lynne Coan, city spokesperson, said Chrzanowski filed his re-election paperwork May 26.
Chrzanowski is seeking his second three-year term in office. Commissioner Susan Gay is also up for re-election. As of press deadline May 30, no one else had filed.
In 2021, a total of 1,190 votes were cast in the election, with 618 in person and 572 absentee. There were 1,703 registered voters. The 2021 total number of votes was the second-highest number of votes cast in a non-mayoral election since 1995. In 2007, in a race between current Mayor Stan Mills, sitting Commissioner Patrick Gossett and former Commissioner Pat Coluzzi, there were 1,206 votes cast.
Individuals interested in running for office must turn in a petition signed by at least 10 qualified voters, but not more than 25, to the city manager by 4:30 p.m., June 6.
To be eligible to vote, a person must register on or before Thursday, July 14. Any qualified elector may request an absentee ballot to vote by filing a request form no later than noon, Friday, Aug. 12.
Absentee ballots will be available beginning Wednesday, June 29. Ballots will be sent to everyone who has an absentee ballot request form on file. The deadline for the city to mail ballots is Tuesday, Aug. 9. Ballots must be received by mail or in person before the polls close on the day of the election.
The winners of the election will be sworn into office during the regular commissioner meeting Friday, Sept. 16.
