Blue-Gold football game set June 17

The 66th annual DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game will be played Friday, June 17, at the University of Delaware. The football game showcases Hand-in-Hand Buddies – children and young adults with intellectual disabilities – and Delaware’s finest high school students who participate as football players, cheerleaders, band members and school ambassadors.

Both football squads comprise 36 high school senior players chosen as students of outstanding character who are also exceptional football players.

Representing Sussex County on the Gold team are Gunnar Abbott of Sussex Central, Averi Copes of Milford, Zimir Gardner of Sussex Central, Jayce Harmon of Sussex Tech, Dalton Hignutt of Seaford, Jaydon Mifflin of Sussex Tech, JJ Parker-Cannon of Laurel, Diego Rodriguez of Sussex Central, Lucas Ruppert of Cape Henlopen, Shawn Saxon of Milford, Jaylin Warner of Delmar, Kyler Weaver of Laurel, Javier White of Laurel and Jack Williamson of Indian River. 

Delaware Stadium opens for spectators at 5 p.m., with opening ceremonies set for 6 p.m. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

Ticketing will be handled through the University of Delaware Athletics website; select “Tickets” at bluehens.com. Day-of tickets will be available at the ticket window in the Bob Carpenter Center.

Each ticket will be assigned to a specific seat in the stadium. There will be no general admission seating.

Tickets cost $12, $17 and $22. On the ticket website, the Blue team will be on the home bench, while the Gold team will be on the visitor bench.

ARK Educational Resource Center banquet set June 18

The ARK Educational Resource Center will host its eighth annual student and volunteer recognition and awards banquet fundraiser from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 18, at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown. Each One, Reach One, Teach One is the theme. Keynote speaker will be Charles Robinson-Snead, LPCMH. Tickets are $12 per person including dinner and may be purchased at eventbrite.com. Rosedale Beach program set June 18

Zwaanendael Museum will present a free program on Rosedale Beach at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 18, via Zoom. Tamara Burks will discuss the Millsboro resort hotel where Black, Indigenous and other people of color found relaxation and entertainment from the early 1900s to the 1970s. Dog adoption event June 19 in Long Neck

Maggie’s Pet Boutique in Long Neck will hold a dog adoption event from 12 to 3 p.m., Sunday, June 19, at 36932 Silicato Drive, Suite 2, Millsboro. Dogs will be brought from Brandywine Valley SPCA in Georgetown and can be adopted that day by qualified individuals. Unitarian Universalists to meet June 19

Healthy Hearts Support Group to start June 21

Bayhealth is hosting a Healthy Hearts Support Group to help people with heart conditions and their care partners.

Meetings are held from 2 to 3 p.m., the third Tuesday of every other month. The group starts June 21, in Conference Room 303 at Bayhealth Hospital Sussex Campus, 100 Wellness Way, Milford.

The meeting locations will alternate between Bayhealth Sussex Campus and Bayhealth Kent Campus.

The Healthy Hearts Support Group offers support and learning to enhance the quality of life for those who have or are caring for someone with a heart condition. Meetings will feature medical professionals presenting on topics such as changing one’s lifestyle after a heart attack, managing multiple medications and how to get stronger with cardiac rehabilitation.

Vietnam Veterans of America to meet June 21

Vietnam Veterans of America, Sussex County Chapter 1105, will hold its monthly meeting and luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, at American Legion Post 28, 31768 Legion Road, Millsboro. All U.S. veterans who served on active duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam Era, Feb. 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975, or any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975, are welcome. Beebe’s teen babysitting course set June 21, 23

The popular babysitting course sponsored by the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing and Beebe Healthcare will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, or Thursday, June 23. The cost is $50 per person and available for babysitters ages 12-15. It teaches teens about child development and age-appropriate activities, safe home practices, first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, along with the characteristics and qualities of a good sitter. Go Fast Running Camp set June 21-23

Sussex Central track & field coach Derek Shockro will host the Go Fast Youth Running Camp at Lewes and Rehoboth Beach locations from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday, June 21 to 23. Boys and girls ages 6-10 are welcome to register. Getting faster can and will help kids with all sports they participate in. The camp’s goal is to introduce proper running form and technique through fun games and activities. This is the perfect opportunity for an athlete to try the sport of running. No experience is necessary; camp fee is $99 per athlete. Registration is available at gofastcamps.com.

Prostate cancer benefit event set June 22

Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats will host a Benevolence Night from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 22, benefiting the Delaware Prostate Cancer Coalition, with 10% of the evening’s proceeds donated to the organization.
