Local Red Hat chapters welcome new members

Two Red Hat Society chapters have announced they are seeking new members. Many women have moved into the area and are looking for a convivial group to enjoy.

The Red Hatters are always looking for fun-loving women ages 21 and up to join them for a few hours of lighthearted socializing each month.

The Evening Primrose Chapter meets the last Tuesday of each month, usually for lunch. This a group of women who wear the traditional purple clothes with a red hat.

The Pirates of the Delaware Bay is a Red Hat chapter whose members invite their “mates” to join their gatherings. They meet during the summer months, and all wear either pirate or wench apparel during their adventures.

Membership in the Red Hat Society can be used for reconnecting old friends, making new friends and rediscovering the joy of getting together with other women for the express purpose of having fun.

For more information go to redhatsociety.com or contact Ambassador B.J. Young, bjy324@verizon.net.

Delaware Humane sets special adoption event July 8-9

Delaware Humane Association will host Summer Lovin’, a special two-day pet adoption event, from 12 to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday, July 8 and 9, at its Rehoboth Adoption Center in Midway Shopping Center, 18675 Coastal Highway, Suite 8, north of Rehoboth Beach. All adoption fees will be reduced by 50%, including costs for dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. This promotion cannot be combined with other discounts, animals in foster to adopt, or holds.

All animals from Delaware Humane are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for heartworm (dogs) or FeLV/FIV (cats), microchipped and examined by a veterinarian. Those interested in adopting are encouraged to go to delawarehumane.org to browse all currently adoptable animals and fill out an online adoption questionnaire before visiting.

“Between our three adoption center locations and our satellite adoption centers, we currently have nearly 200 deserving animals waiting to find loving homes,” said Patrick Carroll, CEO for DHA and Delaware SPCA. “Slow summer days typically mean slower adoption rates, and we’re hoping to encourage folks to come out and adopt with this special 48-hour adoption event.”

Vintage story performances at Rehoboth library July 11

Rehoboth Beach Public Library will host a performance of two charming vintage stories vividly portrayed by professional actress Michèle LaRue, at 5 p.m., Monday, July 11.

In “The Nice People” (1890), a charming young couple innocently brings mystery to a rustic resort. They seem nice, but are they really?

In “Miss Esther’s Guest,” the main character is invited, but nonetheless thoroughly unexpected.

“Before radio and TV, stories were part of the family’s homemade entertainment; authors expected them to be read aloud like little plays. Modern audiences are enthralled by the simple joy of listening; they are caught up in the power of words,” said LaRue.
