Lewes students enroll at James Madison University

James Madison University welcomed Emily Simon and Tyler Hudson, both of Lewes, to campus as members of the class of 2026.

Local property management company wins national recognition

Local property management leader Coldwell Banker Premier was recently ranked No. 6 in the nation for tenants placed and No. 9 for leased rental listings for 2021. These honors were bestowed as a part of a new initiative from real estate industry publication giant RealTrends in partnership with Rent Spree. Coldwell Banker Premier has 16 offices across the Mid-Atlantic and offers short- and long-term rental management, as well as seasonal, commercial and homeowners’ association management services.

This is the third time in 2022 that the company, led by founder and CEO Steve DuBrueler, has appeared on a RealTrends ranking list. The first time, it was ranked as the 43rd largest Coldwell Banker franchise in the country; subsequently, company COO Stephen Meadows was honored as an Emerging Leader. Coldwell Banker Premier’s property management division in Delaware is managed by Carla Riddle in conjunction with Kathy Newcomb. Together, the duo has more than 40 years of property management experience.

Dave’s Dewey Dash 5K set Oct. 1 

The second annual Dave's Dewey Dash 5K Memorial Walk/Run will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Rusty Rudder, 113 Dickinson St., Dewey Beach.

David Ashby was a proud Dewey Beach homeowner who died unexpectedly of an undiagnosed arrhythmia just before his 29th birthday. His family and friends are dedicated to spreading awareness about risks of undiagnosed irregular heartbeat, donating life-saving AED equipment to local lifeguards and businesses and gathering to celebrate his life. About 50% of all cardiac deaths are a result of this often unrecognized condition. The mission is early diagnosis and treatment to save lives. Donations and sponsorships will be fully tax-deductible through a relationship with Simons Heart, a 501(3)(c) organization.

Pre-registration is $30 until race day, then $35. Virtual participation is available for $30 and includes the race T-shirt. Registration is available at www.races2run.com. In-person registration begins at 8 a.m. race day.

Awards will be given to overall male and female winners, male and female master level winners; along with the top 3 male and female winners in nine age categories. Registration participants will receive an event T-shirt.

The after-party buffet is sponsored by the Rusty Rudder with beer and seltzers will be provided by NKS Distributors. A restaurant crawl will take place in Dewey Beach at the conclusion of the award ceremony.

Walk to fight Huntington’s Disease set Oct. 1

The Huntington's Disease Society of America Northeast Region will host the Delaware Team Hope Walk at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, at the main pavilion and bike loop in Cape Henlopen State Park, Lewes.

Team Hope is HDSA’s largest national grassroots fundraising event, which takes place in more than 100 cities across the U.S. and has raised over $20 million for Huntington's disease research since its inception in 2007. Thousands of families, friends, co-workers, neighbors and communities walk together each year to support HDSA’s mission to improve the lives of people affected by Huntington's disease and their families.

Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that affects the nerve cells in the brain; it is described as having ALS, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease all at once. Today, there are approximately 41,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at risk of inheriting the disease.

Friends of Rehoboth library set annual meeting Oct. 4

The Friends of the Rehoboth Beach Public Library will host its annual meeting at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the library’s upstairs meeting room. Attendees should enter via the library’s rear door; the front gates are locked until normal library hours. All are welcome. The meeting will include an annual update from the Friends and the library director, as well as election of board members. Jackpot bingo starts Oct. 5 at senior center in Rehoboth

Cape Henlopen Senior Center welcomes everyone age 18 and older to its afternoon jackpot bingo sessions set for the first Wednesday of the month, Oct. 5, Nov. 2 and Dec. 7.

Cost is $20; doors open at 11:30 a.m. and games start at 1 p.m. at 11 Christian St., Rehoboth Beach. Lunch will be available for purchase.

Cash bingo set Oct. 6

The Milton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will host cash bingo at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Milton Fire Department, 116 Front St., Milton. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 reserved in advance and $25 at the door.

To reserve tickets, text 302-519-4491 with a name and number of tickets needed or leave a voicemail message. There will be door prizes, and concessions will be available for purchase. Attendees must be at least 18 years old to be admitted.
