The Community Resource Center is seeking sponsors and supporters for its annual fundraiser, Sowing Seeds of Change, set for 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, March 21, at Irish Eyes in Lewes.

The casual cocktail event will feature live entertainment and a sampling of foods from area restaurants.

“Our theme embodies our mission to help people in need in Sussex County survive financial crisis and become self-sufficient members of our beautiful beach community,” said CRC Director Jo Allegro-Smith. “Local businesses have always been an active part of our community. Giving back is like adding nutrients to the soil of our community. Sowing Seeds of Change is a wonderful opportunity for business owners to build a reserve of goodwill by helping the Community Resource Center help others.”

She added, “The Sea Shell Shop, Rick and Debbie Schulenburg, Community Bank, volunteers of the CRC and County Bank have already generously signed on to sponsor our event, and we would welcome additional local sponsors. Any business or individual who would like to help can contact me for information about the sponsor levels and benefits.” To reach Allegro-Smith, call 302-727-4572.

“The scope of our services and the number of individuals we are able to help has grown exponentially,” said Allegro-Smith. “We have gone from helping about 360 people in 2011 to over 12,000 people.” In 2019, CRC provided $211,800 in financial assistance to keep families in their homes by preventing eviction and utility disconnection. In addition, CRC operates a food rescue, baby pantry and job center. It also offers a winter day center program to provide respite, support and other services during cold weather to homeless individuals.

The Community Resource Center is at 37510 Oyster House Road, Rehoboth Beach.

“The need in our area is growing, and every dollar we raise goes to addressing that need,” Allegro-Smith said.
