Cape Henlopen High School Principal Kristin DeGregory captured the moment perfectly when she described graduation as standing between “the comfort of what you know and the excitement of what you don't.” For the Class of 2026, those mixed emotions are well-earned. This class achieved remarkable success, earning nearly $7 million in scholarships, securing appointments to military academies, and committing to colleges, trade schools and careers.

The high school careers of this year's senior class were also marked by personal achievements. Whether winning sports championships, celebrating successful plays and concerts, or soaking up rewarding experiences working in the community during internships, the seniors surely made a big impact on the local community.  

Yet the legacy of the Class of 2026 extends beyond awards and achievements. As Superintendent Jenny Nauman reminded graduates, the memories that endure are often the unexpected ones – the friendships, shared experiences and moments of connection that shape who we become. Her advice to “live your life a little more like a vacation day” is wisdom worth carrying long after graduation.

Amid the celebration, there was also a moment of remembrance. The tributes to Ryan Andrew, Adriana Davis and Paishence Young reminded everyone that the Cape community has faced profound loss together. Their lives touched many, and their place within the Class of 2026 will not be forgotten.

This week, we also extend our congratulations to the seniors of Sussex Academy, who will celebrate their graduation Friday, June 5. Like their peers at Cape, they leave high school equipped with knowledge, experiences and dreams that will carry them into the future.

Whether the next step is college, the military or a career, this year’s graduates should always cherish the bonds made with their classmates and the time they had in school. Now comes a time to set new goals, create new memories and embrace new challenges.
