Consortium summer students enjoy Funland and Shorebirds game

July 27, 2019

Each summer, many students in the Sussex Consortium count down the days until the annual field trip to the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, specifically Funland. This year was no different.

For over a decade, Al Fasnacht, Funland proprietor, has donated free rides and entertainment to students in the program. They recently had the chance to hit the popular summer destination and enjoy rides such as the merry-go-round, spinning tea cups, bumper cars, Superflip and Sea Dragon.

Students and staff also got to travel to a Delmarva Shorebirds minor league baseball game in Salisbury, Md. Transportation was provided by a grant from the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation.

Students experienced firsthand the various sights, sounds and smells of the ballpark. Many students with special needs were amazed with how much their initial impressions of baseball changed upon seeing a game in person. Food vouchers were provided for hot dogs and sodas, and students were entertained between innings by Sherman, the Shorebirds mascot.
