The Delaware Department of Correction invites Delaware residents to participate in its Fall 2026 Citizens Academy, which will begin Monday, Sept. 21, with sessions held from 6 to 8:30 p.m., for six weeks, ending Oct. 29. Sessions and tours will take place in the Dover area at the Delaware DOC Administration Building, and facility walking tours will take place at the Dover Probation and Parole regional office, James T. Vaughn Correctional Center and Community Corrections Treatment Center.

This free program gives community members a look inside the operations and programs of Delaware’s largest law enforcement agency and provides firsthand insight into how the DOC achieves its dual mission of public safety and offender rehabilitation. 

Participants will meet with DOC leadership, uniformed officers, and treatment and program providers. They will also have opportunities to engage with individuals currently under DOC supervision.

“The DOC Citizens Academy provides residents with a unique opportunity to see for themselves how Delaware’s correctional system works and get to know the dedicated professionals who work every day to support public safety and rehabilitation,” said Commissioner Terra Taylor. “Our Citizens Academy participants go behind the scenes to learn about treatment and rehabilitation programs, education and workforce training, reentry support, community supervision and much more.  Apply today and join us this fall."

The DOC is seeking applications from individuals age 18 and over; attendees do not need to have any corrections or law enforcement experience. Class size is limited, and interested participants must complete a short application online at doc.delaware.gov. Completed applications should be returned to Jason.Miller@Delaware.gov by Monday, Aug. 31. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the Citizens Academy class is filled.
