Courts have ruled on nativity scenes

December 3, 2021

This is in reference to Mr. Nicholls’ letter on the Rehoboth nativity scene. I would suggest he read more about Supreme Court rulings on this. Based on those rulings, it is permissible to have a nativity scene as long as there are non-religious symbols included such as snowflakes, reindeer or Santa Claus. Displays that have been done over a long period of time take on a historical aspect as well.

Here's a more recent 7th Circuit ruling from February of this year: mtsu.edu/first-amendment/post/1344/7th-circuit-upholds-ind-nativity-display. Nativity scenes have been a historical tradition in Rehoboth for many years. In the early days, they even included live animals.
