Cuvee Ray to host cowboy blues artist Gary Allegretto May 16

One-night only, free public performance
May 13, 2019

Cuvée Ray Wine Bar & Restaurant at 236 Rehoboth Ave. in Rehoboth Beach will host a special one-night only, free public performance by acclaimed harmonica and cowboy blues master Gary Allegretto with special guest Johnny Never from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Thursday, May 16.

The internationally touring, Los Angeles-based bluesman’s critically acclaimed music and songwriting has been considered for two Grammy Award nominations, topped the blues and roots radio charts, and been featured on the soundtracks of major motion pictures from Disney to Johnny Depp. Allegretto’s latest release, “Blues on the Trail,” is a riveting acoustic ride that uniquely explores the connection between the blues and cowboy music. Catch a Gary Allegretto performance to see why he’s a recipient of a prestigious Will Rogers Award - one of the Blues Foundation’s highest honors - the Keeping the Blues Alive Award.

It reached the No. 1 spot on the western music radio charts, has received rave reviews from music critics, and earned 10 music award nominations. Living Blues Magazine calls Allegretto’s latest work “kind of Zane Grey filtered through Robert Johnson - a fantastical campfire serenade for restless souls who can only dream about the trail coming to its end.”

Allegretto is also a renowned blues educator and recipient of the Blues Foundation's prestigious 2011 KBA Award in education. His peerless children's programs have taught thousands of kids worldwide to both learn about and play songs on the harmonica with lightning speed, elevating not only their knowledge, but also confidence and self-esteem. While in southern Delaware, he will be teaching harmonica and providing an assembly performance at the Phillis Wheatley Elementary School. A virtual humanitarian with a harmonica, Allegretto is also the founder and director of Harmonikids, a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization that provides music therapy with harmonicas and lessons to special needs children internationally.

Cuvée Ray Wine Bar & Restaurant owner Ray Kurz said Allegretto’s performance May 16 is a “perfect example of what we offer our patrons – amazing live music enjoyed in a classy yet casual, intimate atmosphere with the added bonus of our phenomenal menu offerings and of course, our outstanding wine selection.

“Gary Allegretto's shows often sell out when he performs around the country. The fact that we are fortunate enough to be able to have him perform here free of charge is a rare treat for any fan of live blues,” he added.

Famed Rehoboth based jazz and blues aficionado Sydney Arzt, who books the talent at Cuvée Ray, is thrilled by Gary’s upcoming show. “I invited Gary to perform several years ago at the old Sydney’s just before it closed, and I have also arranged school performances by Gary over the last few years at some Cape schools. The students absolutely loved him! He is such and engaging and talented person – we’re so excited about this show. I highly recommend folks show up early because he can pack a house and for good reason,” she said.
