Dale Cooke thanks Dewey constituency

October 3, 2019

As a long and drawn-out election process possibly comes to an end, Dewey Beach looks forward to another shoulder season.

We still have the possibility of a court-centered protest about residency of one candidate. Hopefully, that will be settled fairly quickly. After two additional recounts of absentee and machine ballots, the voters have re-elected the incumbents. Bauer had 364 votes. Redefer had 367 votes. Cooke had 414 votes. Newcomer candidate Rowe lost with 358 votes.

With such a close vote between some candidates, the commissioners need to realize that they must work together in an effort to unite various voting factions for the good of the town.

General differences are certainly acceptable; but negative pot-shots and “gotcha” moments in public meetings need to cease. It’s time to move forward for all involved.

Thanks again to everyone who voted for me. And to those that didn’t, I still promise to represent your interests as I do for all stakeholders.

Dale H. Cooke
Dewey Beach commissioner
