A total of 166 runners ran the 35th annual Dam Mill 5K July 28 from Cupola Park with Martin Rodriguez, 36, the winner in 17:28. Francisco Puac, 33, was second in 17:36.

“I could feel Francisco was coming,” Rodriguez said. “He’s amazing for a guy who doesn’t have time to train, but I really wasn’t worried about him. I was just trying to break 17:30.”

Jake Bamforth, 21, now living in Tampa, Fla., but home to visit his parents, ran 18:37 for third place.

“I’ve been doing triathlons,” Bamforth said. “Just running a 5K alone seems easy.”

The 10th annual Run for the Paws is Saturday, Aug. 4, at 8 a.m. Race-day registration is at the  Starboard Restaurant.
