Daniel J. Murawinski, Air Force colonel

Col. Daniel J. Murawinski, USAF (Ret.), 69, of Selbyville, formerly of Fairfax Station, Va., passed away while surrounded by his loving family Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

He was born in Jersey City, N.J., Sept. 18, 1949, son of the late John Murawinski and the late Ann (DeMarco) Murawinski.  Dan completed his undergraduate degree at Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey and completed his master of science in engineering physics from the Air Force Institute of Technology in Ohio.

Affectionately known as “Murry” by his military friends, Dan retired in 1992 with the rank of colonel in the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of service. He was so proud to serve his country. Dan shortly thereafter began his career in the private sector. He retired in 2012 as the director for DOD/Civil Programs with Verizon.  

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nancy E. (Schwalm) Murawinski; three children, Heather Comerford and her husband Gary of South Riding, Va., Becca Lakofsky and her husband Matt of Glen Mills, Pa., and Danny Murawinski and his fiancée Britty Viazzi of Portland, Ore.; his seven adoring grandchildren, Emma and Collin Comerford, Justin, Ryan, Caitlyn and Brayden Lakofsky, and Daniel “Jude” Murawinski.  Also survived by his sister, Dorothy Caputo and her husband Frank of Albrightsville, Pa. Dan had such a strong love for his family and friends.

Friends and family are invited for a visitation at 9 a.m., and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 18, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 35318 Church Road, Frankford.  Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
