Darby Klopp earns Girl Scouts Gold Award

January 20, 2019

Girl Scouts of Chesapeake Bay has recognized Darby Klopp of Lewes for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting.

Darby identified a need for a cover for the scorers’ table on Champions Field at at Cape Henlopen High School. She gathered a team of specialized professionals to use their expertise in building the components of a structure that would provide shelter to volunteer scorekeepers. She got the blueprints approved by the board, and delegated work to finish with a well-built, long-lasting structure.

Since 1916, girls have successfully answered the call to go gold, an act that indelibly marks them as accomplished members of their communities and the world. Some universities and colleges offer scholarships unique to Gold Award recipients, and girls who enlist in the U.S. armed forces may receive advanced rank in recognition of their achievements. Only about 5 percent of Girl Scouts achieve this designation.

Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence and character by providing personal leadership development and programs that teach skills for the real world. For more information, go to www.GSCB.org.
