Darlene Kay Rust Memorial RC race at Club Milton

September 19, 2018

The Darlene Kay Rust Memorial East Coast Remote Control Showdown brought enthusiasts from around the tri-state area to compete for prizes and bragging rights at the Club Milton Speedway on Sept. 15. Thirty-five drivers entered 50 cars in the event.

Darlene grew up in Milton and graduated from Cape Henlopen High School in 1978. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Delaware and worked at the Christiana Care Center. She passed away in March 11, 2016. Her sons, Andy and Alex Scotton, are remote control racers who compete at the Club Milton Speedway events.

All proceeds support the Darlene Kay Rust Nursing Scholarship at Cape Henlopen High School.

“We had a great day of racing,” said DKR scholarship board member Tom Tobin. “We raised more than $500 for the scholarship.”

To date, three scholarships ($2,500) have been awarded. The 2018 winners were Sarah Hyde and Mari Horsey. To make donations to the scholarship fund, contact the Greater Lewes Foundation at 302-703-2568.
