Deadline is Oct. 1 for farm bureau essay contest entries

Students in sixth, seventh, ninth and 10th grades are invited to participate in the 2018 Delaware Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom Essay Contest. This year’s topic is Solving World Hunger, and essays should identify agriculture as a necessary industry to solve world hunger now and in the future. The contest is a project of the Delaware Farm Bureau’s Promotion and Education Committee, whose mission is to promote and protect Delaware agriculture through education and promotion.

First prizes for middle school (grades 6-7) and high school (grades 9-10) are $300; second- and third-place prizes are $200 and $100, respectively. There are also gift certificates for the teachers whose students submits winning essays.

Essays must be typed according to specifications in the rules. Middle school essays should be a minimum of 500 words; high school essays, 1,000 words minimum. Parents must certify that the essay is the student’s own work.

All essays must be postmarked by Monday, Oct. 1. Teachers will send the top three essays from each class to: Delaware Farm Bureau, c/o Ag in the Classroom Essay Contest, 3457 S. DuPont Hwy, Camden, DE 19934. Students should not send essays individually.
