Delaware brewers to celebrate Beer Drinkers Choice Awards Feb. 24

February 20, 2019

Beach towns are known for being ghost towns in the more chilling months, but not in Delaware. With more businesses staying open through the off-season, there is a growing demand that craft breweries embrace wholeheartedly.

Now, with more than 20 craft breweries and 292,741 barrels of craft beer produced, Delaware ranks 20th as most breweries per capita according to the Brewers Association. In a growing industry, craft breweries look for new, creative opportunities to showcase their talents, such as the Beer Drinkers Choice Awards to be hosted by Crooked Hammock Brewery from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 24.

In its third year, the Delaware Beer Drinkers Choice Awards has teamed up with Delaware on Tap. Together, they aim to showcase the culture of craft breweries and the First State.

“Delaware on Tap is pleased to be a sponsor of the Delaware Beer Drinkers Choice Awards, which highlights the amazing array of quality beers available from brewers around the state,” said Liz Keller, Delaware Tourism director. “The state’s craft beverage industry is growing. Delaware on Tap now includes more than 30 locations. These passionate and innovative businesses are a major part of Delaware’s more than $3 billion tourism industry and part of the endless discoveries that make the state such an attractive destination for visitors.”

An amazing array of quality beer is exactly what guests of this event should expect, along with some of Delaware’s best brewers embracing their unique characteristics in humorous costumes. Attendees of the awards are also encouraged to join in.

“We wanted to showcase Delaware breweries in a laid-back, fun environment. It is all about taking a break from our busy brew schedules and coming together to celebrate the beer community,” said Rich Garrahan, owner of Crooked Hammock Brewery.

Delaware breweries competing in the event include Big Oyster Brewery of Lewes, Stitch House Brewing of Wilmington, Midnight Oil of Newark and many more hoping to win best overall, most unique, best costume and best facial hair.

Crooked Hammock Brewery is at 36707 Crooked Hammock Way, off Kings Highway in Lewes. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to www.crookedhammockbrewery.com.
