Delaware Shakespeare to present ‘As You Like It’ in Georgetown Nov. 8
Delaware Shakespeare is performing "As You Like It," one of the Bard's most cherished romantic comedies, in venues throughout the region. Cousins Rosalind and Celia escape from their kingdom to live in exile in the Forest of Arden, where they learn about life and love and the complexities of each while away from the comforts of home. A local performance will take place at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 8, at The Stockley Center in Georgetown.
This Delaware Shakespeare Community Tour brings professional theater to underserved audiences in nontraditional venues, traveling with a cast of eight acclaimed actors, and featuring original music composed by Delaware musician Joe Trainor and sculptural set pieces created by University of Delaware professor David Meyer.
The cast of "As You Like It" includes four actors who appeared in the inaugural Delaware Shakespeare Community Tour production in 2016 - Trevor Fayle, J Hernandez, Danielle Leneé and Bi Jean Ngo - alongside Adam Altman, Jeffrey Cousar, Merri Rashoyan and three-time Barrymore Award winner Liz Filios.
Leneé takes on the role of one of Shakespeare's greatest heroines, Rosalind. Leneé is a Barrymore-nominated Philadelphia actor previously seen with Delaware Shakespeare in “The Comedy of Errors” and “Pericles, Prince of Tyre,” and off-Broadway with Delaware Theatre Company's “White Guy on the Bus.”
“As You Like It” is directed by Madeline Sayet. Sayet is a 2016 TED Fellow, an MIT Media Lab Director's Fellow, an O'Neill/Kennedy Center/NNPN National Directing Fellow, and a recipient of The White House Champion of Change Award from President Barack Obama. She was the resident director at Amerinda (American Indian Artists) Inc. in New York from 2012-16 where she developed new plays by Native American playwrights and launched the Native American Shakespeare Ensemble.
