DelDOT must keep shoulders clear of debris

June 7, 2019

I am looking at the picture of the kiosk on the front page of the Cape Gazette honoring Thomas Draper. I also enjoy cycling, and I was sure that we would see some changes to help cyclists when that tragic accident took Mr. Draper’s life.

One thing is why we do not see the three-foot signs up along our roadways reminding drivers that it is the law to stay three feet away from a cyclist, when you are driving a vehicle.

The other thing is that as a cyclists I try to ride on the shoulder of the road. But a lot of times that is not possible because of glass and other large objects that are on the shoulder. Last summer I was riding and it was right after a car accident and the glass was left on the shoulder.

No one thought to clean that up. Let us truly remember Mr. Draper and have DelDOT put a bunch of those three-foot signs up and keep our shoulders clear of debris. I am surprised I have not heard or read anyone else suggesting these helpful items.
