As a former resident of the Villas at Bay Crossing, I’m writing to completely agree with John Cronin and Becky Clark’s letter to the editor in the Sept. 8 edition of the Cape Gazette.

The Route 1 crossover at Bay Crossing has always been extremely dangerous. When I lived there, a motorcyclist was involved in an accident that shut down Route 1 and required the Delaware State Police helicopter to land in the roadway.

There have been several other crashes and close calls. At one time, DelDOT made adjustments to the center turn lanes, but it did little to alleviate the problems. It’s still very difficult to see any oncoming cars when vehicles are trying to make a U-turn in the opposite direction. Also, when traffic is heavy, the window of opportunity to make a turn is short, and when the light at Postal Lane changes, you can see the rushing wave coming toward you.

This is just one of many crossovers between Lewes and Rehoboth Beach. I second what the previous letter writers said in calling for DelDOT to eliminate all crossovers in this stretch and make drivers go to signalized intersections to make U-turns. Doing this will make it safer for everyone on the road.
