Delmarva Christian, Cape announce COVID cases

September 28, 2020

Delmarva Christian Schools and Cape Henlopen School District have each announced a positive test for COVID-19.

On Sept. 27, Cape officials announced that a Love Creek Elementary employee tested positive for the coronavirus.

“It is important to note that this employee does not work with students and had very limited contact with them,” the statement read. “The employee believes they contracted COVID-19 while attending an event last weekend (Sept. 19-20) and not from the school location.”

Officials said the employee has been quarantining at home since last week and will not return to school until after the isolation period has passed. The Delaware Division of Public Health said no further quarantining by staff or students was warranted; individuals would be contacted as necessary for contract tracing or if there was a possibility of exposure, officials said.

On Sept. 28, Delmarva Christian Head of Schools Matt Kwiatkowski sent an email to parents regarding a student who recently tested positive.

“May this serve as a reminder that this is a real illness, and it is of utmost importance that we do our due diligence to support and implement, the best we can, the protocols the school has put in place that allow us to provide academics, arts, and athletics in person this fall semester,” he wrote.

Due to the student self-quarantining prior to symptoms appearing, the Division of Public Health has advised there is no concern about a possible spread and no additional steps are needed at this time.
