The Delmarva Christian girls’ basketball team lived up to the never-give-up adage, as they came back from 12 points behind to defeat Padua 53-45 Feb. 10 at the Georgetown campus.

The Royals were led by senior point guard Gracie Fetterman, who scored 28 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter. She also pulled down 10 rebounds, dished off four assists and snagged three steals. Senior Kandice Schlabach added nine points with 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals. Evelyn Jensen hit for eight, grabbed 10 rebounds and one assist, and knocked away three Pandas shots. Ainsley Bell put in seven points while garnering five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Grace Fiorilla hit a foul shot for one and grabbed two rebounds. Elizabeth Moyer grabbed a rebound and had a steal.

“We started to take ourselves out of the game in the first half and not play our game,” said Fetterman. “We had a talk at halftime and a little switch went off for us, and then we played our game. We went man-to-man and cut off their threes, sped their game up, and we got some turnovers.”

The Royals outscored the Pandas 38-22 in the second half to grab the win from visiting Padua.

The Pandas lived by the three, as they hit for nine, but missed three long-range shots in the final minute under the tough man-to-man defense by the Royals.

Kate MacLennan led the Pandas with 16 points, four from behind the three-point line. Grace Trerotola scored four threes and a deuce for 14 points.

The Royals were set to host Saint Mark’s Thursday, Feb. 11. They defeated the Spartans 39-35 Jan. 30 in Wilmington.
