Delmarva Christian girls run the Royal clock on the Dragons

January 29, 2020

Delmarva Christian girls’ basketball moved to 12-1 on the season with a 76-10, running-clock victory over Salisbury School Jan. 27 at the Georgetown campus.

The Lady Royals held the Dragons to just one point in the first, third and fourth quarters, and went on to take their record to 7-0 in the ESIAC Conference.

Sara Walton led the Royals with 18 points in the contest.

“It’s been a team effort this season,” Walton said. “I have been having an off season and I don’t know why, but I have to get it out of my head and realize that it’s not about me. It’s about the team and about the school and who we represent. It makes me get out there and try harder. It’s me playing for the team, playing for each other and playing for God.”

Abby Agapito hit the twine for 15 in the contest.

“Our coach keeps us constantly fired up for the games, whether it be a close game or a not-so-challenging game,” Agapito said. “Him encouraging us spiritually and mentally in every game really helps us. My mom tells me to write a Bible verse on my wrist to help keep it in my head that I’m not doing it for myself.”

Sierra Troyer and Grace Fetterman scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. Savannah Stewart, Ainsley Bell and Kandice Schlabach rounded out the scoring.

“With games like this, I give the team a challenge,” said head coach Jedidiah Roach. “Tonight, I gave them the defensive challenge to hold their opponents to 10 points or less. Because if you give them a challenge like that, you’ll have to play. You have to play aggressive on defense and also smart because you don’t want to foul.”

The Royals defeated William Penn 57-53 in overtime Jan. 25 in New Castle.

Fetterman scored 25 in the victory. Troyer hit for 14, while Walton tallied nine. Schlabach and Bell each garnered four, and Stewart hit for three points.

The Royals traveled to Holly Grove Christian School Wednesday, Jan. 29 where they put up a 68-16 score on the Lady Eagles.

Sophomore Sierra Troyer led the Lady Royals with 19 points while point guard Grace Fetterman hit for 16. Sara Walton followed up with 11 points.

The Lady Royals will host Salisbury Christian Friday, Jan. 31.
