February 25, 2021

Delmarva Christian’s Gracie Fetterman reached a milestone of 1,000 career points Feb. 24 against Caravel Academy. She scored 24 in the game, as the Royals defeated the Bucs 65-52. Caravel had previously defeated the Royals 70-44 Feb. 8 at Caravel.

It was a night to remember for Fetterman and her fellow senior Kandice Schlabach, as they were each honored before the contest.

“It was definitely a big goal of mine to achieve because my mom got her 1,000 in high school,” Fetterman said. “I definitely would not have been able to achieve my 1,000 without God, my teammates and family. It was a night I will remember forever.”

Fetterman hit three of her shots from behind the three-point line. She also pulled eight rebounds, dished off four assists and had five steals.

“We played great together and worked really well together,” Fetterman said. “We passed and moved the ball, and everyone did their job in order for us to win. We never gave up.”

Schlabach filled the stat sheet with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks.

“Coming into the game, I was very nervous, but confident,” Schlabach said. “I knew we were prepared, and we just had to work together as a team and play our best defense. This game was one of our best games as a team, and we all came together and pushed through. It was a very hard-earned win, especially with only having six players.”

The Royals took a 30-17 lead into the halftime break. They broke it open in the third period, outscoring the Bucs 24-11.

Delmarva dressed just six varsity players so the JV team could play the JV Bucs.

Sierra Troyer contributed 11 points, six rebounds, four assist and two blocks. Ainsley Bell added seven points, four rebounds and four assists. Evelyn Jensen scored five points and snagged10 rebounds while making two blocks. Tessa Kwiatkowski added two points and two rebounds off the bench.

“I thought we played hard,” said Royals coach Jedidiah Roach. “We were aggressive and passionate. I could tell on the faces of the players that they were in sync, and Kandice told me that she wasn’t leaving without a win.”

The Royals await seeding for the DIAA state tournament.
