November 23, 2020

The Delmarva Christian girls’ volleyball squad ended its season with a 14-25, 23-25 and 20-25 loss to Dover Nov. 20 at home on Senior Night.

Grace Fetterman and Kandice Schlabach were honored before the game as the Royals’ Class of 2021.

“Dover was able to keep us off balance all night with good serving and great defense,” said Royals coach Jim Berger.  “We struggled to get anything going, and Dover was able to keep the momentum for all three sets.”

Dover was led by Olivia Anyanwu with 29 assists, and Kim Czepukaitis scored nine kills.

Makayla Heinrichs had six kills and two aces in the match for the Royals. Sierra Troyer added nine kills.

The Royals won the ESIAC Championship over Holly Grove Christian School Oct. 30. It was their fifth consecutive conference championship. They end their season at 4-7.

“I think we have a great team,” Fetterman said. “I think it was definitely different than last year just because we lost some key components and had to fill those pieces, but also because of COVID and the season starting later and having to wear masks. We have a lot of young, talented players on the team, and I know they’re going to keep getting better and better. I think it’s really cool how many ESIACs we have won, and there’s no doubt in my mind that they will continue to do well.”

The Royals junior varsity defeated the JV Senators 2-0. They finish their 2020 campaign at 5-2.
