Denis Orient Marcoux, supervised construction

Denis Orient Marcoux, 93, of Millsboro passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at his residence. He was born May 21, 1925, in Fall River, Mass., the son of the late Arthur Henri and Donalda (LaPlante) Marcoux, and brother to the late Therese Aubrey and Robert Marcoux.

Mr. Marcoux was a devout Catholic, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He attended Prevost Catholic Boys’ School in Fall River, and was top of his class. Mr. Marcoux enlisted in the Navy at age 17 in February 1943 and began active service in March 1943. After completing medical training, Mr. Marcoux became a corpsman with the 4th Marine Division and took part in the Pacific Campaign, landing on four islands - Iwo Jima, Saipan, Tinian and Roi-Namur. Mr. Marcoux witnessed the raising of the U.S. Flag on Iwo Jima.

Following the war, Mr. Marcoux met and married the love of his life, Beatrice Brabant, and enjoyed marriage for 58 years until her passing in November 2004. Shortly after the war, they moved to the Washington, D.C., area where he began his career with the George Hyman Construction Company in 1949. Mr. Marcoux supervised construction of many office buildings in the D.C. area, including the Capital Centre Arena in Landover, Md., in 1973.

Denis loved baking, eating crabs and running. He completed several Marine Corps Marathons in his early 50s. In his later years, he could be seen walking miles around his neighborhood, chatting with neighbors and friends along the way.

Mr. Marcoux was preceded in death by his beloved son Richard A. Marcoux of Atlanta, Ga. Mr. Marcoux is survived by his loving daughter, Denise Marcoux Parkerson of Millsboro and Dunkirk, Md.; two loving sons, Laurent D. Marcoux of Bradenton, Fla., and Randal P. Marcoux of Jefferson, Md.; six grandchildren: Terri Marcoux of Bradenton, David Marcoux of Atlanta, Christopher, Jennifer, Michael and Heather, all of Maryland.

Viewing hours will be Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m., at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 30839 Mount Joy Road, Millsboro.

Interment will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m., at Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Road, Clinton, Md.
