Dewey Beer Company and Delaware Humane team up for Barks and Brews

June 15, 2022

If a dog is man’s best friend, a good beer might be second, so it is only natural that Dewey Beer Company and the Rehoboth Beach chapter of the Delaware Humane Association have combined the two into a summer series of events: Barks and Brews.

The events will be held on the second Monday of every month through September – July 18, Aug. 15 and Sept. 12 – at Dewey Beer Company’s Harbeson brewery. Leigh Dempsey, director of Rehoboth Delaware Humane, said three to five dogs will be on hand at each event seeking a forever home. In addition, 20% of Dewey Beer Company’s taproom sales the day of Barks and Brews will go toward the humane association.

Dempsey said the humane association and Dewey Beer Company started in March, when the association was Dewey Beer’s charity of the month. That event helped raise about $9,000 over the course of the month, she said.

“They’re such a dog-loving organization,” Dempsey said. “It’s been a lot of fun.”

One of the dogs at the June 13 event, Cratos, was adopted, said Krissy McCluskey, general manager of Dewey Beer Company’s Harbeson location.

“Our team here at DBC Harbeson is so proud to have such a great partnership with DHA,” she said. “As a team of animal lovers, nothing makes us happier than hosting events like this and seeing great things happen for pets in need.”
