Dewey’s Golden Jubilee returns to the beach Sept. 24-26

Town goes to the dogs - the four-legged kind
September 21, 2021

Dewey's Golden Jubilee will return to town the weekend of Sept. 24-26. Hundreds of golden retrievers and their families will spend an amazing weekend, kicking off with the Gold Rush Parade at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 24. The costume parade will begin at Lake Gerar and make its way to downtown Rehoboth Beach, walking along Rehoboth Avenue to delight onlookers. The goldens and their families will also meet throughout the day Saturday, Sept. 25, on the beach at Van Dyke Avenue for fun and frolic in the surf with tennis balls galore while their owners catch up with friends old and new. A bonfire on the Van Dyke Avenue beach in Dewey will begin at 7 p.m., Saturday, and attendees are welcome to bring marshmallows, chairs, blankets, etc.

This event supports, raises money for and brings awareness to the Morris Animal Foundation Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. It is the largest and longest observational study ever undertaken in the United States to improve the health of dogs. The study is dedicated to helping understand what causes major diseases, including cancer, in dogs, and providing clues as to how diet, exercise, environment and genetics may impact their health and well-being.

All friendly dogs are welcome to come and take part in all the fun. This event usually happens twice a year, the second weekend of May and the last weekend of September. For more information, go to deweysgoldenjubilee.com.
