Diane Marie Upshur Showell, eager to teach

Diane Marie Upshur Showell, 62, of Frankford was born Wednesday Aug. 28, 1957, to the late Josephine Upshur And Roland Walker. Diane passed away at home with family and friends by her side in Frankford Monday, July 13, 2020. 

She received her education in the Cape Henlopen School District.  Diane worked as a administrative assistant, live production at Mountaire in Millsboro for 20 years.  She loved watching Western movies, along with cooking, wrestling, and spending time with family and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.  Diane enjoyed spending time with her sisters, especially Karen, who never left her side but made her laugh and smile. 

Diane had a sternness with her smile to keep everyone straight.  She was eager to teach.  She attended Wesley Chapel in Clarksville, where she was a member of the choir.  She was a worthy matron assistant, and one of the founders of Sister Naomi Order of an Eastern Star of Milton. Diane was married to her husband of 20 years, Darnell Showell April 22, 2000.  She loved her husband.

Diane is survived by her loving husband Darnell Showell of Frankford; one daughter, Cherrena Waples of Milton; one stepson, Dartez Major of Dover, 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven sisters; Gussie "Rose" Upshur of Milton, Karen Upshur of Seaford, Mable (Preston) Mason of Birdnest, Va., Maggie Walker of Birdnest, Lori (James) Smith of Painter, Va., Geraldine (Donald) Johnson of Nassawadox, Va., and Catherine Walker of Hare Valley, Va.; eight brothers: Isaac (Valorie) Upshur, Michael (Inez) Upshur, Terry (Wileen) Upshur, all of  Milton, Roland (Hattie) Walker of Melfa, Va., Albert (Irene) Walker of Nassawadox, Va., Roy Lee Walker of Hampton, Va., George (Leslie) Walker of Hare Valley, Va., and Kenneth (Diane) Walker of Craddockville, Va.; eight sisters-in law, three brothers-in-law; two aunts, Magdalene Cox of Milton and Shirley Paynter of Rehoboth Beach; special friends, Angie Thompson, Wendy Baker, Pam Hitchens, Janet Bowden, Lisa Maker, Richard O'Bier and Chad Carpenter; a host of nieces, nephew, and friends.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Walker Sr.; two sisters, Susie D. Walker and Shirley Walker.

Celebration of life service will be held at St. John 2nd Baptist Church, 26602 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro, at noon, Saturday July 25.   Family and friends may visit two hours prior to service.
