Dogfish Head to release Mother Tree barleywine-style ale Jan. 19

Only 300 bottles available
January 15, 2019

All fans of tree-mendously delicious barleywines will want to head to the Dogfish Head Brewery Tasting Room in Milton at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, to pick up Mother Tree.

The first 750ml limited bottle release and barrel-aged experimentation of 2019, Mother Tree clocks in at 11 percent ABV. This flavorful beer is a barleywine-style ale that’s been aged for seven months in bourbon barrels.

Dogfish’s Mother Tree is a liquid-form celebration of the biggest and oldest tree in the forest – the mother tree - which uses an underground network of organisms that communicate with the saplings around it to move water and nutrients to the daughter trees.

With a “wood-wide web” concept in mind, Dogfish came up with the idea of this barrel-aged American-style barleywine by using elements from a variety of trees including oak aging with cubes from American white oak trees, syrup from sugar maple trees, elderberry from the elder tree, cinnamon tree leaves from Zanzibar cinnamon verum trees and black walnuts from American black walnut trees. It uses all parts of the tree - the wood, leaves, sap, seeds and fruit - resulting in the ultimate Mother Tree.

With only 300 bottles available, Mother Tree is priced at $20/750ml bottle and will also be available on draft. There is a two-bottle limit.
