Dogfish Head will ring in fall with its inaugural Harvest Festival, to be held from 1 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Milton brewery and tasting room.
Harvest Festival is a collaboration between Dogfish Head and Secretly Group, a family of independent record labels. Secretly Group has put together a traveling exhibition called Paved Paradise that brings a record store experience outdoors with vinyl record bins, 45s, cassette tapes, CDs, merchandise and afternoon DJ sets. Paved Paradise is hitting 15 cities across the country from Thursday, Sept. 9 to Sunday, Sept. 26.
Dogfish Head decided to take the traveling road show a step further and incorporate a celebration of Milton. Between 5 and 6 p.m. the day of the festival, Dogfish will hold Milton Appreciation Night with free apple fritters for anyone who can show the 19968 ZIP code on their driver’s license. Members of Dogfish’s Off-Centered Club will get double points on all purchases throughout the day, as well as tours of the Steampunk Treehouse in front of the brewery.
Dogfish founder Sam Calagione said, "There’s no better way to welcome fall than with an outdoor festival celebrating independent music, community togetherness and of course, craft beer. I am most looking forward to checking out all the awesome records our friends from the Secretly Group and Paved Paradise will be bringing to the event, an exploration of goodness that will be amplified by simultaneously sipping on a beer and listening to some analog tunes.”
“All of us at the Secretly Group are thrilled to be working with Dogfish Head to bring Paved Paradise to music lovers in Delaware,” said Paved Paradise organizer Amanda Colbenson. “I think this may be our most exciting – and fun – stop yet!”
Part of the festival will include a question-and-answer session starting at 6 p.m., featuring Calagione, Colbenson and Ken Shipley, founder of Numero Group, one of the labels in the Secretly Group family.
And for those looking for a fall-centric beer or cocktail, Dogfish will be pouring its Punkin Ale all day, as well as a special beer cocktail made with a mix of lemon juice, house-made orange maple pumpkin syrup and Dogfish’s Straight Whiskey, topped with Punkin Ale and garnished with a dehydrated apple slice.
