Don P. Hale, avid boater, fisherman

Don P. Hale, 83, of Wilmington passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, at The Moorings at Lewes, where he had resided for the past four months.

He was born March 16, 1936, in Milwaukee, Wis. Don’s family moved east when he was 1 year old and he spent the remainder of his life in Wilmington. He enjoyed a summer home in West Bay Park on Rehoboth Bay for many years, and was an avid boater and fisherman.  Don will be remembered by all for his kindheartedness, outgoing spirit and sense of humor.

Don worked as a salesman for Wholesale Electronics in Wilmington from 1960 until his retirement in 1988. He also sang and played country music professionally at many venues in Delaware and Delaware County, Pa., over the years.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Marjorie B. Hale; his brother, John E. Hale; his sister, Beverly J. Hale; and son Glenn S. Hale. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol A. Hale; his son John Eric Hale, MD; daughters-in-law, Judith Hale and Patricia Tuggle; and six grandchildren, Laura Finn (Jonathan), John C. Hale, Beverly Cleary, James Cleary, John Cleary and Michael Cleary.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Don’s name to Brandywine Valley Baptist Church, 7 Mt. Lebanon Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.

A private Celebration of Don’s life will be held at a later date.
