Doodles in Dewey to hold virtual Doodle Romp Nov. 14

Annual event raises funds for Food & Friends
November 1, 2020

COVID-19 restrictions put a stop to the annual goldendoodle gathering in Dewey Beach, so Doodles in Dewey organizers are gearing up for a virtual Doodle Romp, set for 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 14.

The 15th annual celebration will include a costume parade, tips on alternative holistic care, grooming and nutrition information, tours of the Food & Friends site, regional cafes and more, Doodles in Dewey organizer Amy Scott said.

“We're hoping to be able to have people have live chat groups according to where they live,” Scott said. “We know that there are large groups from Philly, South Jersey and DC-Metro area that have come together to the Romp for many years.”

Originally scheduled for April 24-25, the Doodle Romp was first postponed to October when beaches in Dewey were closed due to COVID-19.

The first Doodle Romp began in 2005 in order to raise money for Food & Friends, a metro DC nonprofit organization that prepares fresh meals that are nutritionally specific for men and women suffering from cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other chronic, life-threatening illnesses.

Commemorative T-shirts and masks are available at tinyurl.com/doodles2020. All merchandise will be mailed directly, with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting Food & Friends.
