Dorothy ‘Dot’ Foster, telephone operator

Dorothy "Dot" Foster,  84, of Lewes passed away Monday, March 30, 2020, at The Moorings at Lewes, in Lewes. She was born April 28, 1935, in Bristol, Pa., daughter of the late Ralph and Ann (Dolan) Cook.

Mrs. Foster worked as a telephone operator for St. Mary Medical Center before retiring in 1999. She was a TOPS member and leader in Millsboro, and also a member of the Century Club for over 40 years. A lifelong Phillies fan, Dot enjoyed being involved with the Community Church of Oak Orchard and playing Bunco at the Long Neck CHEER Center. Card making and long car rides with the vigilante grannies were also some of her favorite pastimes.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Foster and her sisters: Eleanor Barats and Lorraine Harrington. She is survived by her son, John Hamill of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; her daughters: Karen Abel and her husband Jay of Lewes, and Kathleen Hicks of Bristol, Pa.; her grandchildren: Joseph Cole and his wife Nicole of Levittown, Pa., Ashley Baker and her husband Rick of Lewes, Jaclyn Hicks of Levittown, Jayson Abel and his wife Shannon of Old New Castle, Lauren Hicks and her fiance Trey Farmer of Philadelphia, Pa., Shawn Penquite and Brianna of Bristol, and Shane Penquite and Krysten of Bristol; her great-grandchildren: Timothy Hicks, Haiden and Hanna-Mae Baker, Jolene Cole and Baby Abel due in September; and her beloved friends: Barbara Harris and Gemma Counts.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mrs. Foster's memory to Autism Delaware, 17517 Nassau Commons Blvd., Lewes, DE 19958 or the Community Church of Oak Orchard, 32615 Oak Orchard Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.

Due to state and national health restrictions associated with COVID-19, the family will delay formal memorial services until a later date when family and friends can safely gather to celebrate Mrs. Foster’s Life. Services will be announced through selected newspapers and on the funeral home website.
