Dorothy ‘Dottie’ P. Bernard, real estate broker

Mrs. Dorothy “Dottie” P. Bernard, 77, of Millsboro, formerly of Delran, N.J., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018.  

Dottie was born Jan. 29, 1941, in Bryn Mawr, Pa., to the late Arthur and Mary Mitchelltree Parkinson.  She worked for 20 years at Farmers and Mechanics Bank, and later became a real estate broker which she was very proud of.  She loved reading, ceramics, selling real estate and Diet Pepsi.  She also was a great cook.  Dottie was in charge and effective at setting a great example, and knew how to solve problems.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed by all.  

She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, David O. Bernard Sr.; three children,  Jeanne Martin (Jeff) of Margate, Fla., David O. Bernard Jr. (Steve) of Elizabeth City, N.C., and James E. Bernard (Joni) of Cinnaminson, N.J.; two sisters, Patricia Finuoli of Bensalem, Pa., Rita Grube (John) of Columbia, Pa.; and a brother, George Parkinson (Diane) of Clarion, Pa.  She also leaves behind to cherish her memories four grandchildren, Jason Sabol (Nicole) Joshua Sabol, James P. Bernard and Kaitlyn Bernard, as well as one great-grandson, Jacob Sabol.

A memorial service will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, at The Mt. Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mt. Laurel, N.J.  Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK  73123.
