Dorothy Ruth Donaway Mitchell, retired beautician

Dorothy Ruth Donaway Mitchell, 90, formerly of Millsboro, passed away at the Manor House ACTS in Seaford Saturday, March 9, 2019. Her husband, Howard R. Mitchell, died June 4, 1998.  

She was born Aug. 19, 1928, to the late Charles B. and Estella Jane More Donaway. Dorothy was a self-employed beautician, operating Dot’s Salon for many years, as well as an apartment manager in several locations across the country.  She attended Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Salisbury, Md., in recent years.  

Dottie (to her friends) loved card games, painting and socializing with her friends at the Manor House. Her hobbies were knitting, watching sports, especially women's basketball and softball, which she played in high school and for the Sweetheart Bakery as an adult, and making floral arrangements for friends and family.

She is survived by her three children: Donna Kaye Nickles (Rick) of Easley, S.C., Stephen Theis (Patricia) of Matthews, N.C., and Joseph W. Wilson of Seaford.  She has 10 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Friday, March 15, at 11 a.m., in the Millsboro Cemetery, State Street, Millsboro.  Pastor Tom Bunting will officiate.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in her honor.
