Drago giving 3rd District voters a choice

October 16, 2020

I am writing in Patricia Drago for Sussex County Council, because I want to be represented by someone who is honest, hardworking, can bring fresh ideas to the tough issues facing Sussex County and truly cares about our community.

I’m writing in my vote for Patricia Drago because I think voting is all about making choices and I believe that my vote should count. Before Patti entered the race, the seat would have been filled by default by Mark Schaeffer, having been selected by the small number of people of one party who voted in the primary election.

I’m writing in Patti Drago because I believe that honesty matters. I was concerned when I learned that Mr. Schaeffer’s long history of holding public office has been marked by multiple controversies. Even his campaign has been marred by controversy. In a Sept. 3 letter submitted to the Cape Gazette, the Sussex Alliance for Responsible Growth (SARG) publicly demanded that Mr. Schaeffer retract an ad that they describe as “…outrageous and dishonest in presenting phony statements and attributing them to SARG.”

I’m writing in Patti Drago because addressing the issues facing our community from transportation to smarter development requires someone with energy, and fresh ideas. Anyone who knows Patti can attest to her boundless energy and track record digging into tough issues and coming up with practical solutions. An experienced business leader, Patti took on the challenge of spinning off a subsidiary of the company she worked at to save over 3,000 jobs. Many doubted this was possible. She succeeded. When COVD-19 hit, she was one of a small group who brought together various nonprofits in Sussex County to coordinate responses, and worked on the development of a food access map for Sussex County. The weekend after she announced that she was running as a write-in candidate, many expected that she would step back from her volunteer activities to focus exclusively on her campaign. But, there she was volunteering on the weekend. Why? because she had said she would do it and she keeps her word.

According to Thomas Jefferson, “We do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.”

I aim to be part of a majority who will participate in the Sussex County Council District 3 election by writing in Patti Drago.
