Drago represents change for Sussex

October 22, 2020

Regardless of whether you regard yourself as a Republican, a Democrat or unaffiliated, you have a choice for Sussex County Council District 3 on Nov. 3. Not because the two conventional parties have put forward outstanding candidates, but because a nonpartisan candidate has put herself forward as a write-in candidate. Without this step, District 3 residents would be represented on Sussex County Council for the next four years by someone chosen by less than 10 percent of the district’s registered voters – a minority of a minority and a democratic (small “d”) embarrassment.

It’s not easy to run for office. The effort is time-consuming, money-consuming, life-consuming. A dedicated group of friends, neighbors, acquaintances and like-minded voters have rallied behind Drago’s candidacy to attempt the impossible—win election as a write-in candidate. They include Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and those with no party, all convinced that Drago’s credentials, work ethic, and commitment to doing what’s best for Sussex are preferable to the alternative—the same old, same old claiming to be something else.

Drago will bring a new, problem-solving perspective to Sussex’s challenges. If elected, she won’t work miracles. She won’t solve them all single-handed, but she’ll have one great advantage. She doesn’t bring a party label with her. The temptation to draw the usual battle lines won’t be there. The dynamics will depend on how the council’s other four members choose to work with her, because make no mistake, Patti Drago will work. Mark Schaeffer would reinforce views already in the majority. Patti Drago will bring a fresh perspective.

Write in Patti Drago’s name on your ballot. Help change our politics and help change Sussex County.
