DELAWARE CAPE REGION HISTORY IN PHOTOGRAPHS

Dune fencing along Delaware’s coast in 1933

November 26, 2019

Dune fences have been in the news recently, primarily due to a proposal by the state to install a fence along the dune line in Lewes to protect the dunes from being degraded by people tramping in them. The proposal apparently hasn’t reached the stage of having artist conceptions created to show what such a fence would look like. This photograph from May of 1933 shows a dune fence installed by the state in an area along the oceanfront south of Rehoboth Beach.
