The Eagles are 2-0 on the season so far. They won in exciting fashion over the Tennessee Titans by scoring a last-minute touchdown on a 65-yard drive. If they want to have a successful season, though, they have to start playing more complete games. They need to start that this week against the Chicago Bears on the road on Monday Night Football. Chicago is going to play with either a second- or third-string quarterback this week, so that is a bit of an advantage right from the start. Tyson Bagent (who I’ve never heard of) or Case Keenum, a longtime backup are the options. So, I hope the Eagles do not play down to their competition and win this game by more than seven points to make the fans more comfortable. Unfortunately for the New York Giants and the Washington Commanders, their starting quarterbacks Jaxson Dart and Jayden Daniels both have long-term injuries. That will probably make it easier for the Cowboys and Eagles to compete for the division championship.
So let's be realistic. The Phillies could actually miss the playoffs if the continue to play like they currently are! The regular season ends this weekend, and if they don’t win two of the three games this weekend against the Tampa Bay Rays, they could complete one of the most disappointing Septembers in franchise history. For the past month, their offense has been nonexistent. They have been unable to score four or five runs a game, which is what is needed to win games in the major leagues.
Every player on the team is just simply trying too hard and thus making things worse and not better. They are striking out way too much. The pitching is doing a good job for the most part, but that doesn’t really matter if you only score three runs a game. Even if the Phillies make the playoffs, they’re not going to advance very far if they don't fix this. To make things worse, there is a 5% chance there will be no season next year because of a possible lockout/strike between the players and owners. The collective bargaining agreement expires Dec. 1.
The NHL season starts next week. You can call me a bandwagon fan when it comes to hockey. The Flyers made the playoffs for the first time in about 10 years after a full season. I don’t expect them to win the Stanley Cup this year, but they should be able to make it to the second round of the playoffs and we’ll see how much further they can go from there. I will definitely be paying attention to the first month of the season before the NBA starts at the end of October.
