Easterseals Caregiver Conference set Aug. 24

August 8, 2022

Easterseals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore and the Delaware Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities are hosting the 12th annual Easterseals Caregiver Conference  from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24.

Discovering the Joy in Caregiving is this year’s theme. Topics are pertinent for caregivers caring for loved ones of all ages, but the focus is those caring for adults and seniors. The free event will be held at the Embassy Suites in Newark and simulcast at the Milford library. Caregivers will also have an option to log in virtually.

With the generous support of Highmark Delaware, Easterseals announced this year's keynote speaker will be Dr. Jamie Huysman, PsyD, LCSW. Huysman is well-known for his work fiercely advocating on behalf of family and professional caregivers. From authoring several books, to running a national caregiver support foundation, to his expert videos on Caregiver Connections, he is a champion of behavioral health and a patient-centered medical culture that is prepared to meet the needs of those it serves.

Some highlights of the conference include the popular panel with caregivers sharing their experiences. The Food Bank of Delaware also will be conducting a healthy food demonstration with ideas for quick, healthy meals.

A virtual tour of Easterseals’ newly reopened resources and technology demonstration center will provide information about assistive technology.

“Easterseals is proud to be able to offer this conference for families who do the great work of caring for their loved ones every day,” said Kenan Sklenar, Easterseals president and CEO. “We hope the conference is a reminder that caregivers must not forget to care for themselves as well as their loved one and helps provide some of the tools they need to discover the joy in caregiving.”
