Easterseals receives Longwood Foundation grant

October 6, 2019

Easterseals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore recently received a grant from the Longwood Foundation to offer applied behavior analysis therapy to children under age 3 with an autism diagnosis.

“Easterseals is pleased to partner with the Longwood Foundation to offer children and families ABA therapy,” said Kenan Klenar, Easterseals president/CEO. “Studies show how effective this form of therapy is, especially for young and growing minds. We are thrilled to have the Longwood Foundation behind us in this endeavor.”

Applied behavior analysis therapy programs help increase language and communication skills, and improve attention, focus, social skills, memory, and academics by focusing on teaching new skills. Family education and support are also critical components when working with very young children. Studies show that when ABA therapy starts before the age of 2, it is even more successful.

Since 1937, the Longwood Foundation has invested in the quality of life and future of Delaware. It seeks to invest in nonprofit organizations that empower individuals and communities.

Easterseals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore offers a range of services, including children’s therapies, assistive technology, recreational camping, day programs for adults with physical or intellectual disabilities and respite services for caregivers.
