Eldert R. "Mac" McGee, retired insurance agent

Eldert R. “Mac” McGee, 91, of Milford, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, at Country Rest Home in Greenwood.

Born Nov. 29, 1926, in Long Neck, Massey's Landing, Millsboro, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Bernice McGee of Milton.

Mr. McGee "Mac" attended Rutgers University and was a member of ACER (Air Corps Enlisted Reserve). He was in training as an aviation cadet at the university. Upon completion of his training, he went to Sheppard Field, Texas, then Kessler Field, Biloxi, Miss., and later Richmond Army Base, Va.

He worked for 38 years (1951-89) at Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company, retiring as district manager from the Dover office. He and his wife Ruth went on many company-sponsored trips during his tenure at the company.

He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, hunting, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Eldert is preceded in death by his wife Ruth (Fassel) McGee; and a brother, Julian McGee.

He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Cohee and husband Dale of Milford, and Nancy Frazer and husband James of Dover; three grandchildren, Evan Frazer, Erin Miller and Corey Cohee; and five great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Homes, 119 NW Front St., Milford. Burial will be held privately at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
