Elect Gay and Glass in Rehoboth Aug. 10

August 9, 2019

This Saturday, Aug. 10, will mark the election of two critical Rehoboth Beach Commission seats. We are fortunate to have two more-than-worthy candidates to fill these seats. Susan Gay is a very strong candidate and one endorsed by a large number of voters, including myself under separate cover.

But there are two seats available, and it is in the city’s interest that both seats be chosen wisely. This means it is most important that voters endorse candidate Gary Glass as well. Anyone frequenting commission meetings over the past two years is aware of Gary’s commitment to the city and his willingness to speak up on a variety of issues, particularly those in the interests of the city’s residents. His willingness to articulate his views has not always made him popular with the powers that be, but I for one appreciate his willingness to be candid and forthright.

Gary has no personal agenda and is motivated strictly by his concern for Rehoboth’s well-being. He is alert to actions that are inconsistent and unfair. Unlike some of his opponents who a few years ago donned red T-shirts in efforts to defeat the interests of homeowners in the face of mini-hotel developments, Gary has consistently kept his focus on fairness and transparency (alas, not always the slickest move when standing up to power).

Gary had a highly successful career in accounting and management in large nationwide businesses. His sophistication in these areas will be welcome. Over the last 20 years, he has been active in bringing his skills to Rehoboth, serving on the Country Club Estates POA and as a member of the beach and boardwalk committee. As a long-term resident, he is a font of ideas on improvement of the city. He values transparency, a sometimes elusive quality in Rehoboth governance. Gary is a personable, open and inclusive individual. He will bring a breath of fresh air to the city and I encourage all to vote for him.
