Ellen Bernadette Allan, beloved bartender

Ellen Bernadette Allan, 73, of Millsboro passed away Monday, June 17, 2019, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.

She was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland March 8, 1946, daughter of the late Samuel McCabe and Susan (Strong) McCabe. 

Bernadette began her bartending career with American Legion Post 105 in Bethesda, Md., and after moving to Delaware in 1995, she worked as a bartender for American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro until her retirement about a year ago.  She was a member of American Legion Post 28, AMVETS Post 2 and AMVETS Post 22, all in Millsboro.

She was loved by everyone who  knew her, and will be remembered for her vivacious personality and her deep love for her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Shumway in 2009; two brothers, Samuel and Patrick McCabe; and two sisters, Maureen Sanlon and Collette Ashkiani.  Bernadette is survived by a daughter, Kelly A. Allan of Rehoboth Beach; two granddaughters, Kyla Bernard, and Layla Dunning; a brother-in-law, Ali Ashkiani of San Diego, Calif.; three special nieces, Maryam, Paulette and Kimberly Ashkiani all of San Diego; and countless other extended family members and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 28, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may visit after 10 a.m.  Interment will be private.
