Ellen Dolores Keener, cared for her family

May 18, 2020

Ellen Dolores Keener, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Timonium, Md., at the age of 84.

Dolores was born April 25, 1935, to Hoyt and Ellen Haddock. Dolores was the light and joy of her parents’ life, and she brought that same passion when she began her own family with her late husband, Captain Carl F. Keener. The couple wed in 1956, and went on to have three daughters, Penelope, Robin and Lorie.

Dolores dedicated her life to being a caring wife, wonderful mother and generous grandmother. She was the heart of the Keener family - a kind, thoughtful and loyal woman who supported her family through the many milestones, accomplishments, and difficulties of their lives.

She brought joy to her family and friends with her delightful sense of humor, endless generosity, and unyielding patience. Dolores was known for her good nature and her laugh, often prompted by her late husband’s many jokes. She was an incredible hostess, bringing together family and friends for holidays and preparing countless delicious meals over the years. Dolores enjoyed a good game of Bridge, participating in the garden club, Hallmark movie marathons, and relaxing at their family beach house in Lewes.

If you were to ask her, Dolores would be proud to tell you that her family is her greatest accomplishment.

She is survived by her children, Penelope and Bruce, Robin, and Lorie and Shawn; six grandchildren, Sarah and Josh, Marion and Kyle, Bailey, Audrey, Daniel, and Leah and Chris; and five great-grandchildren, Dorothy, Luke, Quinn, Rowan and Joel.

Details on a memorial service will be shared with family and friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Homecoming Project, PO Box 1190, Bel Air, MD 21014.
