Possum Point Players seeks makeup chairperson

Possum Point Players is looking for someone to serve as makeup chairperson on its artistic committee. The position entails attending committee meetings once a month,  as well as being in charge of the makeup room at Possum Hall and keeping track of inventory. It also means either assisting PPP stage directors with finding someone to take charge of makeup for their shows, or serving in that capacity themselves. For more information about the responsibilities, contact Beth Howlett at or 302-249-1362.

Pottery lessons available at Mispillion Art League

Mispillion Art League is offering pottery lessons for individuals. Participants can select wheel-throwing or hand-building, or a combination of the two methods. Lessons are six 90-minute sessions and include instruction for making pieces, having them bisque fired, glazing instruction and glaze firing.
Cost for six lessons is $350 for members and $385 for nonmembers. Clay is $20 for a 25-lb. bag. Only this clay can be used due to firing and glazing considerations.

Pottery needs drying time and firing time, so the six sessions will cover several weeks. The league will set a schedule that works for the student and the instructor.

For supplies, students will need a covered pail or small bucket with a lid, such as a 2-gallon pail, available at hardware stores. Some MAL tools necessary for throwing, footing or hand-building may be used. The instructor can recommend tools to purchase. Since clay is luscious mud, participants should consider wearing a smock, apron or older clothes, and bring a towel or some protection for their car seat.

The most important rules are to delight in working with clay, take pride in learning, laugh, turn frustration into finding out even more about clay and the process of making things, and enjoy the time and experiences. To arrange sessions, call 302-430-7646.
